Vocaloid

Postby d.yaro » Tue Nov 30, 2010 11:05 pm

If I recall correctly I think there was one person here who actually has a copy of the Hatsune Miku Vocaloid software...not sure if the net result of that purchase/acquisition sounded more along the lines of Yowane Haku. Anyways, fear the worse in the English speaking otakudom: Crypton Future Media has announced an English language Hatsune Miku package: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=273881. The cheeky part of the announcement; they will release the package after they receive 39,390 pre-orders. Get it? "39" can be read as "Miku" in Japanese. Groan...

I have the software, but as I'm currently running a Linux system the only one I have installed at the moment is Megpoid on my tablet. It will be interesting to see how Saki Fujita sounds as an Engloid. She really showed a lot of range with the Append releases.

I've grown accustomed to Miku's Japanese voice. Not sure I will be able to deal with her speaking English.

But to be honest, I really like her mainly for her stage performance.

That and Luka, really like her too.

Remember Wayne Gretzky on the Bo Jackson Nike ad? "Bo does hockey!". Gretzky skates up to the camera, stops, shakes his head lightly and say "No". That's my tongue in cheek response to the idea of Fujita Saki lending her voice to the English Hatsune Miku. Methinks the more likely route Crypton would take would be to hire a native English speaking singer.

Nicely put. Think I recall that commercial too.

^ Thank-you for the refresher!

You'll have to pardon this OT quote:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bo_Jackson wrote:Another clip, envisioning Jackson playing ice hockey, was followed by Wayne Gretzky shaking his head in disbelief and dismissing the effort with a quick "No." (In his autobiography, Gretzky says his negative rejoinder came in frustration after multiple takes of him saying "Bo knows hockey!" that the director didn't like. He also said the bits showing Bo playing hockey were actually filmed on a wooden floor, with Jackson in stocking feet.)

For me I've always preferred Miku as a character and concept over her actual singing. Her videos always seem more interesting to me than her actual performances. For example, I find "Love is War" to be extremely powerful and emotional visually, but the accompanying vocals aren't nearly as intense. She looks like she should be screaming, but her tone doesn't come close to reflecting it. Vocaloids seem to be really great at cheerful, upbeat songs, but from what I've seen they don't seem to be capable of showing much in the way of intensity.

But if there's a song that can prove me wrong then I'd really love to hear it!

Try this remix of Love is War

Though no one has been able to evoke a scream as well as KagomeP IMO

We'll have to see what Yamaha does with the Vocaloid 3 engine.

I must say for me, the reason I like Vocaloids is because there are people out there that do things like this

Lots of creatively out there forks

They have the Supercell Hatsune Miku CD & DVD set at Book-Off. This is the one which was released by Sony Music. Regular price is $74 but they have a 50% sale this week. I'm sort of tempted to buy it. The videos are a so-so bunch. They're a collection of the original videos paired up with versions with lyrics. I really didn't care for the Supercell PV of "Melt" either. So that's a bit of a knock against it. Don't know. Will sit on this one for a day.

I think I have two new favorite videos after taking some time to watch a bunch of random Miku videos.
