last.fm
Just wondering if anyone here has an account on that site. I stumbled across it on the MAL Music Addicts club page. I wasn't super impressed by what the site had to offer on my first glance at it. I might open an account on it but I thought I'd ask for opinions on it beforehand.

Re: last.fm
I did have an account once. I think the site's kind of boring. Apparently it's good for recommendations, but that's about it... It doesn't really do anything else as far as I know. But, hey, I always recommend people try things out for themselves, so go for it.

Re: last.fm
I think mine is ailayeatts. I only use it when I'm at work and forget my iPOD. I dislike the lack of song selection they have for some artist, but hey, they're growing. Here's to hoping they get more Japanese music on soon as well.

Re: last.fm
I was thinking of starting an account there or on RYM -- the latter is particularly attractive for being able to catalogue and rate your music. I've actually been lurking on there for a year and a half, skimming the charts and certain users' ratings.

^ With respect to RYM: A site that has The Replacements "Let It Be" on a best 5 list can't be all that bad.

Re: last.fm
RYM is the best site I've ever seen for anything music related. It covers every genre imaginable (a few I'd say that don't even exist! But such is the nature of fanboys...), and if you find some users that share your taste in at least a specific genre, you can really find a helluva lot of great albums that way.
P.S. The Replacements' Let It Be is awesome.

Re: last.fm
Thank-you to those who offered their two-bits on this topic. I've gone ahead and opened accounts on both rym and lastfm. User name is "deyaro". Currently poking around on rym looking for (semi-)obscure titles I have on vinyl.

I mostly use it for keeping track of what I listen to. It's much more useful if you actually know what you want to listen to. I

Re: last.fm
I have one! My username is lydialamia, so feel free to add me. I like using last.fm for the following reasons:
1) Unlike Pandora, there isn't an ad every other song. That got old really fast.
2) As Pasta has mentioned, it's good on recommending similar songs/artists.
3) I had to delete most of the songs from my pc as it was starting to run really slowly, so it's nice to have a music library somewhere.
4) You can meet new people who are also passionate about music!

Re: last.fm
Not exactly the most interesting group (okay, it's boring) but I just had to check it out after seeing the group name: "I watched Honey & Clover and had my music tastes changed dramatically as a result.". I found it by virtue of buying two CDs by THE BAND HAS NO NAME and going to their artist page on last.fm. That band is connected to that group.

Re: last.fm
But It's TRUE! I'm now a YUKI fan. I definitely wouldn't have listened to her otherwise,

Re: last.fm
^ Ah...Is that how it works. I wouldn't have made that connection because the route I took to her solo work is via her having been the vocalist for JUDY AND MARY. She was also a member of the rather seminal Mean Machine.
Okay...someone refresh my memory please. Which JUDY AND MARY song was used as an anime OP/ED song and for which series?

Wikipedia mentions that "そばかす" was the first OP to Rurouni Kenshin. Beyond that I don't know.
DRAMATIC (a solo YUKI single) was the OP to H&C
