Looking forward to this. Especially 2NE1 because I'm more biased toward them.

Also... Everyone's familiar with what X Japan's been doing, right? Pretty awesome, I think.

Yeah. There was some crazy legal stuff going on a while ago with them though. I wonder what happened with that.

The stuff offered by this label is about as far away from the Oricon charts as I can imagine: http://www.psfrecords.com/new.html. I had stumbled across some tracks by a psycmetal act named Shizuka and decided to try and track down their CDs. That search quickly led me to the above web site.

It definitely is. While I prefer my unknown, never ever even made it close to the oricon acts on the electro side, it's pretty great that you can actually get someone to ship that kind of stuff outside of Japan.

With MEG taking a break, Ami Suzuki not doing anything and Perfume continuing to sound more like GIRL NEXT DOOR everyday I'm kind of dying for capsule to comeback with something amazing.I'm sure Nakata still has it in him (You just turned 30, don't have already hit your peak  )

Found a group on last.fm called "Female Fronted Japanese Rock". It isn't a particularly active one but I thought I'd share it as the connected artists list is of a decent length. http://www.last.fm/group/Female+Fronted+Japanese+Rock

2NE1's album is pretty great. I didn't expect to hear anything like It Hurts on it and I'm quite impressed (especially at CL. Who says the rapper can't sing?) the english version of Can't Nobody is pretty fierce and gives me some hop concerning their American debut. I didn't listen to the solo songs more then once a piece when they came out either so those being there aren't bothering me at all.

I must once again proclaim my love for 2NE1. ♥

They could totally make it here, and hopefully they're given a better chance than other Korean artists in the past. Will.i.am seems interested in them, which is a pretty big deal.

Chihiro Onitsuka being assaulted is seriously depressing me. There are also reports it wasn't just her face that suffered but some ribs were broken. I know it's horrible when it happens but to such a beautiful and meaningful artist it just feels so unfair. She gave the world wonderful music and her sound helped me a lot during my serious state of depression. I hope she recovers soon and knows that all her fans are wishing her the best.

Angela Aki's new album is soooo lackluster. I expected better. Love 'Mad Scientist' though. Her best song will always be 'On and On.'

She's so boring now. Kokoro no Senshi and This Love will always be her best songs.

My sister was telling me yesterday evening how she hasn't found anything new and interesting to listen to in the field of Japanese music. She finds most of j-pop stuff these days to be repetitious ("songs all sound the same") and she can't get into Japanese urban/hip-hop/rap music. VK is not on her radar. Neither is pure idol pop. So I'd thought I'd ask if anyone here can think of acts who might interest her. Artists I know she's listened to in the past are Hirai Ken (I think she really likes his work), Mr. Children, Gospellers, Hamasaki Ayumi, Hitoto Yo, Ito Yuna, BoA, Misia, and Utada Hikaru (another one of her favourites though she didn't like her English albums)...

Those sound like her style :)

I have CDs by Bonnie Pink, Onitsuka Chihiro and Kimura Kaela (her first album I think) which I can lend to her. I thought I read a short quip a year or so ago talking about Kimura going from a pop/rock style of music to a more hip-hop influenced style. Comments?

I'll mention all of these artists to her. Thank-you very much for the suggestions!

No.. I can't imagine that at all! It must have been a joke.

You could also mention Ai Otsuka.

I've really been into this group lately. If anyone remembers PARADISE GO!! GO!! That is Misaki.

I could but I won't. :P After freezing away on a late March evening to watch her rather staid three song set in Osaka I'm not too partial towards her.

Aww, but word on the street is that she isn't screwing Akanishi anymore!

Speaking of which, his tour is a disaster in the making. Which I predicted. Damn you Johnny! But he does have a new song that I'm quite fond of

She's also releasing a new album soon though! So she'll win it back!
