8.0/10: what can I say, I have a soft spot for Irish music and this was a fun, little song

7.5/10 I'm not the biggest fan of 70/80s Brit rock, but this song grew on me. Beautiful guitar sound too.

I call this the perfect makeout music.

7/10: The background music was nice, but the singer's voice kind of annoyed me.

"Technically" beautiful, but not really her best. I tend to think her happy sounding stuff is a little silly. Enya is cool when she's all depressing and mysterious lol. Still, it's a nice song. 7.5/10

6/10. Not really my kind of music, but I'll give it props for being on the better side of such things.

7.5/10. Pretty generic hard rock, but really nice sounding nonetheless.

6.5/10: Not too bad of a rock song, just a little too simple sounding for me.

9/10. Great song off of a fantastic album. Not quite my favorite, but still a very unique and enjoyable one.

Hmmm.... Not sure what to make of it. Extremely mellow by my tastes. A bit too much so. I did play it twice but the vocals didn't hold my attention too well. The bits and pieces of the lyrics which I caught were fine. Sorry, I think I liked "Red Blood" better. Score: 5/10

This following song really caught my fancy last year. I had bought the CD four years ago. On the latest CD I made for listening to while driving this song is the first track...go figure eh.

9/10. Definitely seems like a great song to listen to while driving. Or more specifically, a great song to listen to while driving on an open road with no one around and you're just having one of those days and you need something to lift you up, heh heh. Kind of reminds me of a more mellow Rearviewmirror by Pearl Jam in that way.

Great choice Image

10/10: My favorite song by The Decemberists. I absolutely love the 70s area prog rock vibe that this song has. The middle section in particular sounds like something early Genesis could have played.

8/10. The only other Gotye song I've ever heard was Somebody That I Used to Know when it exploded into the mainstream, but this one has quite a bit more of a groovy, epic feel to it than that one did, and earns more points to it as a result. But I kind of still do feel the same way about it as I did the other one. Musically it's great - fantastic instrumentation and vocals that evoke a lot of emotion. But lyrically it's pretty generic - kind of your basic run of the mill breakup song stuff, which could benefit from a lot more creativity.

I know, right? I actually thought of Yes myself when I first heard it. In fact a lot of moments in that whole album kind of make me think 2000's Indie Rock meets 70s Prog Rock.

Picking just one Sigur Ros song as your favorite is just...... not possible. But I do think this one may very well come the closest. Or at least I have one of my greatest Sigur Ros memories with it anyways - Listening to Agaetis Byrjun on the bus one day feeling very, very uptight and stressed out hoping it would calm me down, the song before this one being quite a bit more intense and not helping...... And then this one. :)

8.0/10: Wasn't sure what to expect with the intro, but the rest of the song turned out to be quite nice, almost classical. It has some guitar work that reminds me of early Pink Floyd. It's the kind of song that is sure to grow on me.

I read somewhere that Jenny Conlee is a fan of Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Either way, the prog force is strong in this one

8/10. Ah, punk rock. Gotta love it. 8-) Now I'm all pumped up to watch me some World Cup next week!

darksideoftheanime wrote:Wasn't sure what to expect with the intro

It's the carry-over from the last track, pretty much. To be perfectly fair it does make a lot more sense in the context of the album as a whole.

Nice track. Quite suitable for me right now as I'm about to doze off. Very listenable. 7/10

I saw this band in concert a couple of years ago at a local bar. Lead vocalist has to be the shortest man I've met in ages...all of 4'11" or so.

7/10 Pretty nice song. If I have any criticism the melody might be a little bland. The bridge was nice with the piano.

Whoa.... Reminds me of a Bruno Mars ballad in terms of voice but this fellow's lyrics and delivery are much more gutsy. Who knows what I would give at my age to sing like him. I might of been able to hit some of those notes 35 years ago. All in all, 8/10. I liked it.

Last summer a friend raised his glass to me and said "I guess we're never going to see The Tragically Hip in concert, eh?"....
