So Becks wants to stay with AC Milan eh? I'm not the least bit surprised. I'm not upset about the turn of events. Just saddened that he wasn't at the top of his game during his stint with the LA Galaxy (let's face it kids, the club didn't make the playoffs with Beckham on their roster). At least I had the pleasure of watching him play our local USL-1 team, the Vancouver Whitecaps, in a friendly.

You didn't throw anything at him?

Yeah, I hate David Beckham.

From 12 rows up in the upper bowl at BC Place Stadium I would've needed a baseball hall of fame outfielder's arm to stand a chance of hitting the field, let alone nailing Becks! :-P

I see. But either way, it would've been awesome. That guy is a disgrace for this awesome sport.

And the local league is BACK! My team's playing against Millonarios in Barranquilla. I'm going to see the match on TV, so no one's going to find me! XD

Montreal Impact shut out Santos in Champions League quarter-final match!!!! Woot!!! Okay. So the Impact managed to sign Eduardo Sebrango off of our local team, the Vancouver Whitecaps...and Sebrango delivers both goals for the Impact eh? We'll forgive them if they make it to the semi-final round...

Heh. Such is life, D.

Instead, Junior's leading the league right now. No one has been able to beat us at home!

MLS to admit Vancouver Whitecaps in 2011

I wonder if d.yaro will be happy to hear this news?

^ No, I'm really miserable and grouchy... Of course I'm happy to hear the news. :-D It's too bad they'll be playing on a "rug" (i.e.: artificial turf) at BC Place Stadium. There had been talk of a downtown shore-front stadium but plans got bogged down due to objections raised by residents who live close to its proposed site. I'm assuming that stadium would've had a real grass turf.

Four of the world's best football clubs to stage round robin tournament in the US.

This should be very interesting to see. This might bring some more interest for the game here (it certainly couldn't hurt it). I couldn't I wonder how full the NFL sized stadiums will be?

Wow. That looks really interesting. When I read it, I said to myself that I would love to check out one of the games. The closest venues for me would be Baltimore or Foxborough... but both of those game dates are the two dates of the whole entire summer that I already have plans! That rots....

Darn! The odds I can get down to Seattle in time to see the match on Friday, July 24th are slim to none. And I can't get the time off from work to make the trip... Grrrr...

At least 19 dead in Ivory Coast tragedy

It is always sad to hear stories like this and it always seems that their deaths are just so pointless. How come every time something like this happens it almost always involves a soccer match?

I'm still depressed about Canada bombing out of the World Cup qualifiers. Reading this blog (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/blogs/2009/04/offside_fixing_canadian_soccer_1.html) I'm beginning to suspect I may never see Canada make it to the World Cup in my lifetime. That's truly depressing... :(

Got my first glimpse of a Colombian football match on Saturday while at the Shark Club Bar and Grill in Victoria. They had a match between Santa Fe and Atl. Nacional on one of their TVs for about 15 minutes. Couldn't get a good feel for the game because I was eating my dinner and I was hanging out with a bunch of friends but I had at least one eye on that TV. ;)

Sorry to ruin your joy, Derrick, but both Santa Fe and Nacional are at the bottom of the league right now. It's sad to say it, but their glory remains in the past.

On another note... The Champions League has come to the final match:

Barcelona vs. Manchester United.

FORZA BLAUGRANA!!

Barcelona may have won the Champions League final but the match of the day for me was the one I went in person to see...Vancouver Whitecaps defeated the Montreal Impact in the Canadian Championship tournament. I had a great time at the match seated in front of a contingent of Latin American football crazies. They were definitely there to have a good time.

I didn't get very many good photos though...my photo set is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8936205@N02/sets/72157618896088208/

Woot! I'm happy. Vancouver Whitecaps defeated Toronto FC by a score of 2-0 and are firmly in the driver's seat of the Canadian Championship series. Story here: http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/story/2009/06/02/sp-van-tor.html. My first batch of photos I took are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8936205@N02/sets/72157619093080559/.

Toronto FC lose...again. This time to an LA Galaxy side minus Becks and Landon Donovan. The video clip accompanying this article is fun for me because it includes replays of the two goals Vancouver scored on TFC. :) http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/story/2009/06/06/sp-tfc-lgalaxy.html
