Al Hilal Striker Nawaf Al Abed Scores After Two Seconds. Blink and you'll miss it. Actually, it's a bit hard to make out the first time around. On the replay you get a decent look at it.

That's incredible. Reminds me for some reason of the goal a Colombian keeper scored in 2005 against Poland!

Say what you like but I think USA has to pull off at least one upset to get out of the group. I'm not expecting Japan to make it out of their group either. Yes, I'm hoping Argentina will choke. Adios Diego...

I agree. Japan is in a VERY complicated group. And this isn't Captain Tsubasa, so probabilities are next to nil.

Argentina, meh.

But I want Brazil to flatten Portugal if Cristiano Ronaldo dares to show his ugly face there.

Manchester United 5 - MLS All Stars 2

Looks like Truered's team gave the MLS quite the beating here. But here, with over 70,000 in attendance who says Americans don't like soccer :up

I'm a happy camper. Was at the Vancouver Whitecaps FC MLS season home opener against Toronto FC. We didn't have much possession in the first 10 minutes or so but after that, we made life miserable for the TFC defense. Final score 4-2 in favour of Vancouver. There was lots of energy at the game. The cheering was really loud, team colors flag got passed around the stadium at the start of each half and there were plenty of goals to cheer for. Game writeup is here: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2011/03/19/sp-mls-tor-van.html. The craziest person in the stadium? My vote goes to the guy wearing a Philadelphia Flyers jacket and toque. What the heck was he thinking? http://www.flickr.com/photos/8936205@N02/5542041480/

NFL star Ochocinco tries out for MLS team. I don't know this Ochocinco guy from a hole in the ground but I do say he's pretty gutsy to try out for a pro football team given that he's an NFLer and hasn't played soccer in a real long time.

Real Salt Lake draws in the first leg of CONCACAF Champions League final

Real is one more match away from being the first USA club team in ten years to win the continental title. Plus, they'll earn a bid to the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan this December.

Manchester City and the New York Yankees set to own MLS club in New York City

The MLS slowly keeps growing and growing. Maybe someday there's be enough teams to start having promotion and relegation.

^ I don't think it'll get to the point where there is promotion and relegation like in the overseas leagues. The argument I've read is that MLS owns the league and since franchises are expensive it would be hard for them to permit a team to be relegated to a second tier league. The franchisees wouldn't be happy to see their big league investment literally go down in relegation.

Last Sunday I did something that I haven't done in a long, long, time: I watched a soccer game from start to finish. In particular, it was the Seattle Sounders-Vancouver Whitecaps match. Recently, I got FIFA Soccer 13 for the Xbox 360 and in a way, playing that game has kinda made me a soccer fan. I am a supporter of the Seattle Sounders and I am pleased to say that we won that game 3-2. I'll be able to better keep track of Major League Soccer and the Premier League once I get settled. I think Truered will be pleased to know that I also support Manchester United in the Premier League as well.

^ *Should I mention that I might be turning into a Portland Timbers supporter  :o*

As for English football, it took awhile for me to pick a team but I finally decided to throw my support for Swansea City I just had to pick the team that was the only Welsh team in the Premier League at the time :D .

^ Sheesh you people. Tom, if you do start supporting the Timbers then we'll have a full Cascadia Cup entourage of supporters here. Yes, of course my team is the Vancouver Whitecaps.

As for stuff over on this side of the ocean, I went to my first J-League match last night. This was a division 2 match up. Watched Yamagata Montedio defeat Matsumoto Yamaga FC by a score of 4-1. The game started off slowly with a series of aerial lobs back and forth and didn't accomplish much. Very soon Montedio started moving the ball on the ground with a bit of authority and tested the Matsumoto defense. A cross from the left side of the box got headed on to an open man who promptly fired the ball into the top opposite corner of the net. The rest of the half was a see-saw affair with Montedio getting the better chances. At the start of the second half a Montedio player rang the ball off the top right post area. The ball went up field and Matsumoto scored on the counter attack. After that it was pretty well all Yamagata. I only took my iPhone to the match so I didn't take many pictures. I'll upload some alter.

I'm happy. Whitecaps beat the Sounders for the first time in MLS play. That took a while to get that monkey off their back.

A few weeks ago on the weekend after I graduated from Basic Training, I went to my first soccer game. It was a NASL game between the San Antonio Scorpions and the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. It was a good game even though Fort Lauderdale ended up winning 2-1. Me and a lot of the other graduates ended up going to that game. My best memory of that game would be watching it with a Major, his son, who graduated with me, and his family. I actually spent most of graduation weekend with them.

After hinting at this for weeks now, Orlando City Soccer Club is now officially the newest MLS team, starting in 2015. I've been following this for a while and I feel really happy for the fans down there. I like a lot more then the New York City FC announcement for earlier this year.

I wonder if it will be ok if I share my MLS allegiances between Portland and Orlando  ?
