Re: Official NHL thread - 2016-2017 season
My Caps continue to do well. Nice to see Johansson coming into his own finally. I'm sure we'll make the playoffs but the big question comes once we do will we finally get past round 2. Kind of shocked the Sabers are doing so poorly. With the young talent they have I thought they'd finally start improving. No such luck. They need a goalie for the future. Speaking of goalies I think the Caps #2 Grubauer might be 1 of the 3 taken in the draft for the Vegas team. Almost every other team with 2 good goalies shipped one. We didn't. We also took goalies in the 1st round 3 years ago and in the 2nd 2 years ago. Plus the Gm there at Vegas is our old GM. So I think Grubauer might be a likely option. I wonder if the Caps didn't trade him on purpose as bait to make sure they didn't lose a key piece on the D or bottom 6 offense.

It could be worse. The Caps-Sabres games this year resulted with two losses for Buffalo, and one loss in overtime.

^ On a positive note...the Caps were unable to solve Carey Price a few nights ago. Go! Habs, go!
I was happy to see the Canucks get back into the win column after a horrifying road trip (how many goals did they surrender in one period?...six?). It was a somewhat rare regulation time win too.
But we lost to Columbus in OT tonight...

1) ^ Wonder if you'll get to see good old "Bobby Lu" in goal for the Panthers.
2) Meanwhile... the 'Nucks managed to claw their way back to .500...for a while.
3) I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Caps will be become victim #17 of the Blue Jackets...simply because it's fun to see the Blue Jackets have such success. No offense to the Caps and their supporters
.
4) Jack Eichel may not be the saviour of the Buffalo Sabres but it appears his presence has made them more competitive. Interesting article.

I went to the Canucks game today. Mind you, the Arizona Coyotes are the last place team in the league. Still fun to watch your local team win their 5th game in a row and their 7th home game in a row.
Nice to see Miller get a shut out for his efforts too.
Bo Horvat scored a goal that got a kid a weiner dog. Hence, a new nickname Hot dog for Bo Horvat.

Excuse me...how many goals were scored in the second period of that Pens versus Caps game? That's crazy!

I have tickets to tomorrow's game between the Canucks and Panthers.
Will Henrik Sedin get his 1000th NHL point against his old teammate, goalie Roberto Luongo ?
Should be fun.

Re: Official NHL thread - 2016-2017 season
Yes! It was fun. I am batting 100 this year. Went to two Vancouver Canucks games and they won both of them.
I am quite impressed with the improvement in Tryemkin on defense. He was solid and played very well. I think he just needs to develop a bit of a mean streak and he would be great. He had an opportunity for a break away on Luongo in this game but passed the puck and backed off to get back to his defensive position. One more step and he could have blown by the Panther defense.
Horvat took a slap shot on the side of his head. Went down and did not play for a couple of periods, but was back on the ice second half of the 3rd period.

Re: Official NHL thread - 2016-2017 season
So the Canucks have tossed in the towel regarding the post-season and have picked up a couple of prospects in exchange for veterans (both of who were pending UFAs) before the trade deadline. The moves are definitely gambles but I hope they turn out well. I think the Sens will get more out of Burrows than the Sharks will get out Hannsen(sic). Just my gut feeling.

I think they will both do well at the twilight of their careers.
Time to get some of the prospects to shine.

Re: Official NHL thread - 2016-2017 season
Burrows pumped in two goals in his first game as a Sen. So they got quick returns on the trade.
Post season is coming up quickly. Anyone want to take a shot at who they think will be in the Stanley Cup Final? I haven't been following the season in great detail. So I'll just go for the one in a million shot and pick the Oilers and Habs.
...don't worry, it ain't gonna happen.

I should not have turned on the TV the the Canucks game on Saturday after I got home from running the sound mix.
The score was 0-0 in the second period. Just as I turned on the game, the Penns scored on way to a 3-0 win over the Canucks.

If you're a Leafs fan you can be happy they made the playoffs. But I think that joy will be very short-lived thanks to the Washington Capitals.
