So China is doing to anime series what Bollywood does to Hollywood movies?

Sentai picks up Gintama and the fans go crazy as expected. It is surprising to see a sub only company pick up something this big, even ADV was never this ambitious, not even in their heyday. But who knows, maybe Sentai has big plans and actually does pull out a dub on this one.

I'm pretty excited about Gintama, as I've only heard good things about it. I'm just afraid that the jokes will go over my head as I'm more of a casual fan than a hardcore. As for sub/dub, it doesn't affect me as I'm sub-only. (I am glad that Zac went and banned Gecko/Mario again though).

Asatte no Houkou is what I'm looking forward to, I never thought that would be licensed and it's such a good series, plus it's one of those I don't really care to see dubbed.

Gintama doesn't really need a dub either, the voices just work to well in Japanese I can't imagine it in English and I'm a dub person.

It's nice seeing Petite Cossette re-released since I can't find it anywhere, it was an interesting and creepy lil movie (plus the soundtrack was AWESOME), I do hope we get all the extras that came along with the original though.

I don't think Sentai really needs to dub any of their titles, the only one I really wanted dubbed was Ghost Hound but I just watched that on Anime Network anyway.

I'm not as familiar with Gintama as I should be (having only read one volume of the manga), but it seems like a series that should be worth showing on Adult Swim or some other channel. Longer shounen titles are usually given a dub, whether or not they'd be understood culturally, because they are enjoyed by a wider audience.

Of course we don't need everything dubbed, but some shows are definitely worth it.

I thought it was a good series. Good enough to purchase the R2 DVDs. I developed a bit of disappointment with the anime a long time after I had watched it. The source of that being when I had had the chance to read a bit of the original manga. The anime just didn't do justice to the manga.

"Moria." (I know the actual character is from One Piece, but I thought it was an interesting coincidence.)

I really wonder what Sentai plans to do with Gintama. What I read of the manga is definitely solid, and it can continue on forever as long as the writer is creative. This is going to be a very interesting experiment in a number of areas if this doesn't have an English dub, and I hope it pays off for them, regardless of the audio options.

Oh yeah, I knew Gecko Moria was the real name of his alt profile, I just meant that it was both Gecko Moria and Mario1234567. Hence the slash. Confusing though, since the names are close, so it would look like a typo.

I was actually pointing out the amusing coincidence of how similar the two names are spelled. Should've been more clear.

So how's Bandai going to handle this whole same script thing for 8 episodes straight with Haruhi season 2?

I'm curious about that too, it's going to be a hard sell as a "normal" release. I'm wondering if they'll put the first and last episode on DVD and put the other six online since they're all almost entirely the same. I suppose they could also consider all 8 "bonus content" and just slip them in with each DVD release if they do a reissue of the first season mixed with the second like the Japanese rebroadcast. In the end they'll probably just release the whole season as one box set at somewhat lower prices than a normal half season set, maybe a $35 MSRP.

It doesn't say "Brotherhood" and it could be them trolling, but it's very possible. Who would go through the trouble of messing with their backdoor schedules to screw with people?...Eh, don't answer that.

Interesting. There haven't been any reports I've heard of FUNi working on this, but it would be cool if they were dubbing this in secret.

Ending scene of anime "Winter Sonata" to be live action. Like what? The last ten seconds of the show? This has to be one of the stranger news items I've seen in a while about an anime series.

Slightly off-topic and of minor interest: Hong Kong 'Astro Boy' animation studio Imagi International shuts down. These guys were responsible for later incarnations of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Astroboy. It appears they're still trying to produce animation by shipping the work back to mainland China.

I wanted that Gatchaman movie so badly too :( probably would have done well with the success of the Capcom vs. Tatsunoku Wii game.

Wha-? The Chris Handley case is finally over, he got off with a somewhat light sentence, but wow those images are kinda ehhhh but they are like tame compared to stuff I've seen in the anime community that is sold legally by US distributors. Really I was expecting a lot worse.

Eh, you're telling me. I'm paranoid now that cops are going to come, raid my room, and arrest me based on my doujinshi collection. And maybe my Princess Maker games. I don't like where they pornography laws are going.
