To start off, I'm taking the liberty of grouping together animation dubbed in any dialect of Chinese and titles made in the PRC, ROC and elsewhere (if there are such cases).
I thought I'd start this thread to serve as a place to gather Chinese titles which folks have encountered and hear what people have to say about them...
First off is the short film "Nancy's Morning". I liked it in for its tight story and feeling, even if it is a bit melodramatic and too convenient. But that to me is part of the economy of short film. If one leaves too much dangling about and spends an hour trying to tie up all those loose ends then it won't be a short film by definition will it...
Second is the Taiwanese feature film "Port of Return" or "Kao An". I didn't watch this one in full. Skipped some of the bits in the middle. So I'm not quite sure where I stand on this one. The theme of the film, to me, was played a bit heavy handed. I suppose this one could be categorized as trying a bit too hard and with the resultant work having a feel which is paradoxically unique and derivative. I suppose I'll have to give it a second viewing. What I've posted here is the trailer which gives a bit of an idea of the aesthetic of the film (sorry, no English subtitles).
Area to discuss all things anime related.
